SYNOPSIS: There is a strong tendency to take Christian Science merely as a religion, though a comforting and reassuring one. But the very essence of Christian Science, as its name indicates, is Science—a Science concerned with God, the divine Being. Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Science's discoverer and founder) emphasized the fact that her discovery was the Science of God, consequently, she capitalized the term Science. She states: "In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science" (S&H 107:1).
